If anything has been made clear these past few days, it is that government and our industry are finally finding each other. As a collective, we have been in extensive discussions, made presentations, reworked areas of proposals that required clarity, for one thing and one thing only, to get the stringent restrictions lifted within due course.
SAACI is clear, we have worked at times on our own and at various times within a collective, to get our industry open, we will not claim any ground once we have received the green light to open. The aftermath of the devastation that this pandemic has left behind thus far does not allow anyone to seek recognition.
We are clear we need to do EVERYTHING we can for our members, and to get us ALL back to work.
SAACI has supported a phased approach to opening the industry. The pandemic is still with us, but we have proved that through Proof of Concepts events we can meet safely and responsibly.
Mainstream media have been reporting that government will use part of the events industry to increase the uptake of vaccinations.
We know that we need to find the balance and we need to encourage as many citizens as possible to get vaccinated, but we understand it is a personal decision. However, we need to get our industry back and we need to strike the right balance in and for our work, our lives, our livelihoods.
We call for robust debate as we need to consider appropriate options on this topic. This is particularly relevant after an active week for the industry as we share the week that was below.
