Let’s show solidarity



We are acutely aware that many of our members, individuals, and stakeholders alike, are facing significant challenges in the midst of the Coronavirus outbreak. The continued lockdown has all but halted many of our personal and professional lives.

The economic impacts are also significant, and many companies are feeling their way towards understanding, reacting to, and learning lessons from rapidly unfolding events. Unanticipated twists and turns will be revealed with each new cycle, and we will only have a complete picture in retrospect.


As the situation develops, please be reassured that our primary concern is the health of our members, your staff, stakeholders and all our families. Our thoughts are with all frontline workers, their families and those affected by COVID-19. In addition, we have been working tirelessly in ensuring we are offering information and clarity in these uncertain times.


Given the turbulent times we are all facing, it has become ever more important for SAACI to continue to represent its members on many matters affecting them. Together, we represent a significant voice and as a group we make a positive difference. Over the last few weeks, we have been working with many different government departments and industry bodies to find resolve on a number of issues affecting our industry. We have been engaging with the Tourism Business Council of South Africa, the Department of Tourism (the Minister’s office and the Director General), South African Tourism and the South Africa National Convention Bureau on the issues affecting our industry.


We are endeavouring to continue serving you, our members, in the following ways:

  • Weekly board meetings focus on the actions necessary to ensure the financial and operational strength of SAACI in the future.
  • We continue working with Government to try and find solutions during this difficult period. These solutions are focused on how members and the business events industry is more clearly assisted with the funding mechanisms that were announced recently.
  • We continue to coordinate an events and exhibition association working group of all industry associations, to discuss and keep our collaborative efforts for members and the industry as a whole co-ordinated, with a view to providing holistic approaches towards industry and stakeholders.

  • The SAACI Western Cape webinar “A conversation on the ground, impact on business events” – Thursday, 30 April 2020 at 11:00
  • The SAACI branch AGM’s are scheduled for the week commencing 25 May 2020. More detail will follow in the coming weeks.
  • The association will launch a virtual event scheduled for early June 2020. SAACI will make an announcement soon regarding the format of the event.


Our strongest assets are our flexibility and resilience as an industry. These will be tested to the fullest in the coming weeks and months, as will be our professionalism and motivation. This health crisis impacts each one of us, as do the measures to combat it. SAACI will do its utmost to support each one of you in maintaining the necessary focus.


We can and we will get through this.  With communication, cooperation, and collaboration we have always helped each other in the best of times and the worst of times.


Let us continue to work together to help each other as our founding association envisioned.
